GUEST POST:

My Top Ten Books to Movies
By Christina Bauer

The lovely folks at Stacking My Book Shelves have asked for my top ten books to movies, and I’m happy to oblige! So, without further ado…

ONE. LORD OF THE RINGS
I am a girl geek who was positively OBSESSED with LOTR for decades before its theatrical reimagining by Peter Jackson. And then? Seeing my beloved worlds of Hobbiton, Rivendell, and so on crafted with such beauty and care was nothing less than phenomenal.

TWO. THE HOBBIT
No, I don’t mean the Peter Jackson film version. While LOTR was clearly a work of love, The Hobbit was…well, I don’t know what Peter Jackson was thinking. Let’s just say that I still adore the original animated version of THE HOBBIT from 1977. Bonus: the 1977 version still has the best Aragorn, IMHO.

THREE. WUTHERING HEIGHTS
Day-yum, you don’t know romance until you see Sir Laurence Olivier say: “If he loved with all the powers of his puny being, he couldn't love you as much in eighty years as I could in a day.”  Um, okay, Sir Laurence! I shall bear your children!

FOUR: REBECCA
Another Sir Laurence classic that makes my ovaries sing. In this one, he’s a tortured soul working to forget his last wife Rebecca. But is it because he loved her…or he hated her freaking guts? When Sir Laurence is on screen giving goo-goo eyes, it really doesn’t matter.

FIVE: GONE WITH THE WIND
As a kid, I loved reading and watching Scarlett O’Hara kick verbal—and in some cases—physical ass. As an adult, I realized the many walls of racist crap surrounding her. As a result, GOTW isn’t always an easy movie going experience for me, but it still remains an important one.

SIX: SNOW WHITE
Disney’s original classic is just so gorgeous, it simply makes me want to cry. It’s even more beautiful knowing how much sacrifice, love, and faith went into making this film. The creation almost bankrupted Disney. Plus, many of the film’s artists worked for no pay to simply finish the work. How great when that kind of dedication turns into a commercial success!

SEVEN: DIVERGENT SERIES
I’m feeling like a bit of an old timer with all the black and white movies on this list, so I’m tossing in DIVERGENT, mostly because Tobias Eaton is yummy. Not sure if that makes me less of an old timer or more of a girl creep? Also not sure I care because…Tobias Eaton.

EIGHT, NINE, TEN: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, LITTLE MERMAID, ALADDIN
I’m going to lump together the second era of Disney fairy tale re-imaginings here because they all share some important qualities, namely: sassy heroines, fast pacing, and great music. And since I’m writing the Fairy Tales of the Magicorum Series right now, I’m a wee bit obsessed with this line of literature.

So there you have it…my top ten books to movies. I hope that I helped you to find a new title to check out on Netflix, Goodreads or wherever you go for fun. Enjoy!

At last, Elea and Rowan are settling in to their new lives. Trouble is, Rowan is spending a lot of time cleaning up messes from his childhood. Author Bio:
Christina Bauer thinks that fantasy books are like bacon: they just make life better. All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T. Oh, and she includes lots of humor and kick-ass chicks, too.
Christina graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School with BA’s in English along with Television, Radio, and Film Production. She lives in Newton, MA with her husband, son, and semi-insane golden retriever, Ruby.
