Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally, they're books that have yet to be released. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous Jill at Breaking the Spine. Title: The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein
Author: Kiersten White
Pages: 304 pages
Genre: YA, Dark Fantasy, Horror
Publisher: Random House
Publication Date: September 25, 2018
Blurb:
Elizabeth Lavenza hasn't had a proper meal in weeks. Her thin arms are covered with bruises from her "caregiver," and she is on the verge of being thrown into the streets . . . until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, an unsmiling, solitary boy who has everything--except a friend.
Victor is her escape from misery. Elizabeth does everything she can to make herself indispensable--and it works. She is taken in by the Frankenstein family and rewarded with a warm bed, delicious food, and dresses of the finest silk. Soon she and Victor are inseparable.
But her new life comes at a price. As the years' pass, Elizabeth's survival depends on managing Victor's dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim, no matter how depraved. Behind her blue eyes and sweet smile lies the calculating heart of a girl determined to stay alive no matter the cost . . . as the world she knows is consumed by darkness.
Why it's my Can't Wait Wednesday:
This sounds riveting and a new spin on an old tale. I love it. Horror, YA and dark fantasy all rolled into one - YES! It comes out in September so I have to wait a little bit and that is ok because I really want to read this book!
What is your CWW?
Oh my goodness! What a bleak outlook! I do hope there are a few shafts of brightness in this one - but what a clever spin on the classic tale and that cover... marvellous! I hope you love this one, Mary.
ReplyDeleteYes, but it has to make for an amazing book. I am so excited for this one!
DeleteYeah this sounds good. And I like that it's from her perspective, not frankenstein's. Should be dark!
ReplyDeleteYes, I can't wait for it!
DeleteI love the different slant to this - I'm curious about this one1 (Adding it to my shelves now...)
ReplyDeleteHere's my Wednesday post link - happy Hump Day! :-)
I hope you get an opportunity to read it. I can't wait and I have it pre-ordered.
DeleteSounds fascinating and dark. Hope you love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura. I really can't wait for this one!
DeleteThis sounds amazing! It'll be really interesting to see a different side to the story.
ReplyDeleteI agree that's why I can't wait to see what it's like.
DeleteI've been waiting for this one for some time. Hope we both love it!
ReplyDeleteMe too Barb! I can't wait.
DeleteI really hope you like it! That cover is very suggestive somehow...
ReplyDeleteI just can't wait to read another perspective besides Victor or Frankenstein. It just has to be great!
DeleteKiersten White is an insta-buy author of mine so I'm DEFINITELY reading this!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I hope it's as good as I think it is going to be! I can't wait!
DeleteOh, wow, the Frankenstein angle on this is super intriguing! I can’t wait to see what you think of it!
ReplyDeleteI will let you know soon as I get my hands on it! =)
DeleteThis is a wee dark for me, but my co-bloggers loved White's other books, and a Frankenstein sounds pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteNot that dark for me. As I have read the Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz and loved it. In one of the books it had about Victor's wife and how he kept making copies of her to make her perfect. I just like seeing it from a different perspective. Any way it was really good and I like dark. So this should be awesome. =)
DeleteThanks for sharing this one--I'm always interested in new workings of old tales.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I want to read To Kill A Kingdom too. That looks like a great retelling.
DeleteOMG.... I don't do horror, as Barb @ Booket T's Farm can tell you. Lol. I'm just too much of a scaredy cat!! I also go by the nickname "Chicken Little". Haha!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though, I do hope you enjoy reading this book, when you get to it! Thanks for commenting on my CWW post!! <3 :)
It's ok the horror genre is not for everyone. I can't wait to get my eyes on this one as I think I will read it in one sitting! =)
DeleteOMG! How awesome is it that we are twinning today, because this was my pick too and I totally can't wait to read this. It looks like it's going to be so amazing. Plus, bonus points for the stitching of the typography looking hella creepy! :)
ReplyDeleteIf you get the chance, come by my blog and check out my Can't-Wait Wednesday post.
