Seventeen-year-old Claire Collins has a plan: get into college and leave North Carolina behind. What she doesn’t have is an idea for how to get rid of the local football star and womanizer extraordinaire—Adam Meade, who she can’t even avoid (despite many efforts), because Claire’s dad is the high school football coach.
Seventeen-year-old Adam Meade never fails. He always gets what he wants… until he meets Claire, the new girl who leaves him unnerved, pissed off, and confused. But there’s something about her that he just can’t resist…
With the bite of lemon meringue pie and the sugar of sweet tea, Surviving Adam Meade is a sexy and compelling young adult novel about two strong-willed people who think they know what they want but have no idea what they need.

Book Playlist:

Music can capture a million emotions in a single song.  Stories wind themselves over the melodies, creating characters and situations in less than four minutes.  Music has always been my greatest writing asset, and when I was writing Surviving Adam Meade I kept the following Spotify playlist on loop.  Hope you enjoy the songs that helped inspire this book!

Tori Kelly, Big Sean – Hollow

This is literally Claire’s song.  It encompasses so much of how she would’ve felt throughout the course of the book.  Love.

Thomston – To and Fro

Adam’s song.  I can’t say much on how and why it’s his song, but if you listen to the lyrics and the internal conflict with the narrator I think it’s easy to see how it relates.

Sam Hunt – Take Your Time

This song just fits.  It’s the first country song on this list, but I feel like this would be befitting for Claire or Adam.  It really captures both of their emotions in different parts of the story.

Luke Bryan – I Don’t Want This Night to End

The beginning of the party scene was largely written to this song.  It truly encompasses the feeling of a country party, and how Adam and Claire might’ve been feeling.

Chris Brown – Don’t Judge Me

Just listen to the song.  It’s so befitting for both characters and their journeys over the course of the story.

Sam Smith – Latch (Acoustic Version)

See above ^^^.  Sam Smith. Need I say more?

A Great Big World – Oasis

This is a great song to capture how Adam would view his and Claire’s relationship.  I love how it touches on the complexity of compromise and finding that middle ground to form something beautiful.

Other amazing songs that made the list for a variety of reasons:
Ed Sheeran – Bloodstream
Sia – Fire Meets Gasoline
Amos Lee – Seen It All Before
One Direction – Love You Goodbye

I’m fairly eclectic with music, but all of these songs are incredibly amazing and were essential to the development of Surviving Adam Meade!  If you listen to the list, try to imagine what scene(s) goes with each song. So much inspiration. So many stories to tell.
